Scupltures Vs Tips

Postby missmegs » Tue Mar 02, 2010 11:36 pm

im in a curious state of mind at the moment.... Do you use tips or do you perfer to scuplture?? or do you do both? what are the reasons you use one and not the other...

i scuplture as it was what i was taught first and got the hang of it quickly. i have tried tips but i stick my fingers together for some unkown reason so i think they are abit messy i perfer to scuplt my nails as i can do more shapes then you can do with tips...i do give people the opption of what they would like i dont just tell them their having scupltures...so just curious what you use..

thank you for your time

megs :D

I'm a sculpture person myself. I do use tips on myself sometimes when I just don't feel like spending the time to sculpt them. I find it easier to sculpt on problem nails then trying to fiddle with at tip to customize it for the nail. But if someone wants tips then I do them.

I was never taught sculptures but am slowly teaching myself so I still use tips on clients as I'm faster using tips atm I do prefer the look of sculptures though the acrylic seems to sit more naturally than it looks on tips iykwim

I love to sculpt... I am an embedding freak and I find you can keep the nails thinner if you sculpt when you are putting everything but the kitchen sink into the nails  :D
I do use tips as well, depends what I am doing and what the client wants. :D

I use thin clear tips and do whatever over the top of them, ie: white powder for french, clear glitter mixes, coloured powders etc etc
Only because I can't fit forms, they stick to everything else but the clients finger lol

I use tips on clients. I can never fit forms correctly :( I always end up with a seam of acrylic underneath :(

I have been using tips but am trying very hard to learn to sculpt, I find those sticky forms very frustrating!

I use to be the same with forms (finding it has to place etc). but I think it is a matter of finding the right form that best suits you. I have tried a few and just love my entity forms. To me they just have the size/perfect shape to do any style nail. Its just like the brush you are using. You love the feel and control you have with it. So keep trying/playing with forms.....

I sculpt if its nail art work, but tip if someone comes in and wants a standard full set.

I use loads of different tips, so that Im never stuck customizing a tip to suit, I use, full well, half well, well-less, deep smile well less french and half well french etc.

Sculpture forms I use are entity and nfu oh (oval) for clients with a high hyponicium.

Hey, I learned with tips primarily (back in 1998), but have since taught myself to sculpt,

ok well, at the end of the day, they are both really important skills for a professional tech.

There are clients who really should have one or the other... and this is not something the client can possibly know or understand, therefore they should really not have the option (it should be at the technicians discression)

Tips are generally the best option for a nail biter - and they are very much the best option for ski jump nail - a form will always exaggerate this undesirable nail shape ...

Forms are the only way to correct a parrot beak nail (points down sharply from hyponychium) and these will always require the nail to
be cut very short and resculpted once in a while. Otherwise your beautiful nails will end up very downhill themselves..

For your everyday client you as the tech have the choice to which 'you' prefer the look/result you are after.. Remember too that a sculpt is a lot cheaper to do...

Hopefully most training schools will these days be teaching both right from the outset...
